Corkcrew Boar - Words etc.
November 1 2008 - "A quick one, while we're here"
Corkscrew Boar was formed in 2004. We drank, we rocked, we had rowdy times. Somewhere in the midst
of all of the chaos, we also came up with some instrumental surf songs. It turned out that some folks really liked
the songs, and other folks didn't care for it much. Being from the middle of the continent, we confused people
sometimes by playing surf music, but overall it was received well enough. The rock music we played was powerful
and was always pretty loud. Even though we didn't have the biggest amps, or huge drums, we had tone to spare at
any volume, in any venue. Let me also note here that we're fans of tube amps. Modeling is neat, and
useful for some situations, but we love our tubes. After years of
playing around, we settled down enough to re-record some songs
that were originally released on our first demo/ep. The first run
of recording was pretty fun, and it turned out to be a good
time for all of us. Most people think of recording as a magical experience that happens with lots of money and
a huge million dollar studio, complete with an engineer like
Tom Dowd running the mixer, classic microphones,
tons of instruments, big rooms, and lots of cursing and retakes. Others might think of it as some guy at home
with some cheap headphones, a computer, a little mixer board, a karaoke mic, and maybe a keyboard that was
salvaged from some garage sale, all done in an apartment. The
truth is, it was nothing like any of these imaginary scenarios
for us. We recorded almost everything in a basement, using all kinds of equipment. Everything was captured into
a 24-track digital recording system, we did use several different microphones, guitars, amps, and even drum sets.
There was also some blood, sweat, tears, and all sorts of ups and downs, but it is finally done.
For further info, you can also take a gander at some press we got with a local publication:

Some pictures of our live shows can also be seen on
Amber's page.
Speaking of
KSDB (the Wildcat, 91.9FM), we thank them for playing the old tracks, on a nearly constant basis, and for
inviting us to be on the air on numerous occasions. They've truly worked wonders for local music, and
have helped out in so many ways.
We'll hope to be on the air again soon to announce the release of
"Greatest Hits" and can't wait to share the new tunes with everyone.
Until next time, thank you, take care.

ps. Yes, the title of this was inspired by
The Who. More people should listen to them, more often, at maximum volume.
